Why move to Standards-Based Reporting?

The implementation of a standard-based reporting system provides teachers with a system that facilitates the process of engaging students in a personalized education while also ensuring that students are being assessed on the appropriate skills. In doing so, we create a system that allows teachers to prioritize the appropriate work to guide their instruction.

Learner Characteristics

How do we utilize and report student Learner Characteristics throughout the school year?

In the context of middle school education, it is crucial to distinguish and evaluate students' behavioral conduct separately from their academic performance when providing progress reports. Recognizing and addressing behavioral aspects independently allows for a more comprehensive understanding of a student's development, facilitating targeted support and fostering a holistic approach to their education.

You'll find that core classes report out the Learner Characteristics every 2 to 3 weeks in PowerSchool throughout the school year as a way to monitor student engagement, respect, and responsibility on a more consistent basis. The end of quarter Learner Characteristic grade can impact student eligibility for extracurricular activities throughout the school year as well.
