Applied Communications

Applied Communications is one of the explore classes that sixth graders take during the school year.

Power Standards

  • Identify communication types and tools for effective communication

  • Demonstrate written communication skills

  • Demonstrate verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrate visual communication skills

  • Demonstrate basic research skills

Student Learning Units and Assignments

  • Communication types and tools for effective communication unit

  • Written communication: using email appropriately; mini-research unit; Google Slides presentation on research topic

  • Verbal communication: conversation basics; role playing; informative speech on research topic

  • Visual communication: Google Slides presentation on research topic

Grading

Students will be graded on their demonstration of the power standards as they complete assignments and activities in class.  The grading scale is the same as students' core academic classes: Proficient, Approaching, and Initial. Specific learning targets and expectations for individual assignments will be reviewed when they are assigned.

Expectations for Students

  • Be prepared by having your iPad charged and materials with you.

  • Listen to and participate in class discussions.

  • Use your class time effectively to complete work.

  • Be respectful of your classmates and class materials.
