Our middle school artists explored linoleum printmaking, using line to create shape, texture, movement, and/or value. Inspired by nature, students envisioned original designs, engaged & persisted through carving, and reflected on proofs and feedback before completing at least four quality prints. This process highlighted craftsmanship, problem-solving, and creative growth.

What a great hands-on week in 6th-grade social studies! Our students officially kicked off Unit 4 by stepping into the shoes of the Ancient Egyptians.
Throughout the week, classes simulated the rise of the Egyptian Empire. Student "pharaohs" managed bags of grain (their currency) while directing workers to complete vital tasks. The ultimate goal? Build a pyramid while surviving unexpected calamities! From carving statues out of soap to engineering craft-stick ramps and sledges, our students showed amazing teamwork. Shoutout to the two groups who successfully completed their pyramids!
On Friday, we had a special guest! Mrs. Knutson’s son, Troy, joined us to demonstrate the art of papermaking. This connected perfectly to our study of papyrus. Students created their own "hand sheets" by:
Draining "slurry" (water and fiber) into a frame.
Pressing out the moisture with rolling pins.
Drying the final product on a griddle.
To wrap up the experience, students wrote their names in hieroglyphics on their handmade paper and created their own cartouches. It was a week of history coming to life!

Congrats to this week's Caught Being Good Winners. Way to go, middle school students!
The middle school's second-quarter Winter Fun Day on December 23rd was a huge success, filled with school spirit and excitement! The festivities began with students arriving in their cozy pajamas following a "Festive Holiday Attire" day on Monday. Throughout the morning, grade levels rotated through a series of high-energy activities, including a "Winter Olympics" in the gym featuring challenges designed by Mr. Hovell and Ms. Kish, and various board and card games in the cafeteria. The morning culminated in a thrilling Snowball Dodgeball Assembly, where 8th grade faced off against 6th grade, and 7th grade took on the staff in a battle for the championship.
The fun continued into the afternoon as students gathered in their Core 1 rooms for several interactive events. After enjoying lunch and recess, students created their own Bingo cards for a lively round of Holiday Bingo before settling in for grade-level movies. To wrap up the day, everyone hopped on their iPads for a school-wide Winter Trivia Blooket, testing their knowledge and celebrating the start of winter break. It was a wonderful day of camaraderie and celebration for all our students and staff!

Our hallways were transformed into a seasonal wonderland during our recent Winter Fun Day door decorating contest! On December 23rd, students worked together in their Core 1 classes to bring their creative visions to life after spending the previous day carefully planning their designs. This year’s theme was "Winter," and students were challenged to create student-led decorations that avoided holiday-specific items so they could remain on display throughout the season. To make their doors truly stand out, many students even brought in safe, classroom-friendly materials from home to add that special extra touch.
The competition was high as doors were judged based on creativity, neatness, theme representation, and evidence of full student participation. Every student was required to contribute at least one piece to their class's display, ensuring a true team effort. Excitement filled the air as the winners were announced, with the top three classes earning additional recess time as their prize: 30 minutes for 1st place, 20 minutes for 2nd place, and 10 minutes for 3rd place. We are so proud of the craftsmanship and school spirit our students displayed!
Special congratulations to Mrs. Lawler's class as the overall winner!

"Preparing the next generation of informed voters! Our 8th-grade Social Studies classes recently tackled the Electoral College through a competitive simulation. By 'playing' the election process, students gained a clearer understanding of how our national leaders are chosen and why every state’s role matters in the final count."

We just wanted to send out a huge "Thank you!" to our parents for all the thoughtful gifts this holiday season. We had one parent group go above and beyond, providing a pizza lunch, breakfast, and a new microwave, toaster, and silverware for the staff lounge. It was incredible, and we are so grateful for everyone's generosity!"

Congrats to our Caught Being Good Winners. This month, we held an extra drawing for students, giving them the chance to win a gift card to the Harvest and Gale Lanes.
On Wednesday, December 17th, our 8th-grade students traveled to Western Technical College for Career Day. During the visit, students heard from a variety of career speakers and had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions and explore different career pathways. This experience was a valuable step in helping students begin thinking about their future plans.

Noetic Learning Math Contest Winners
This fall, 28 7th-grade students competed in the Noetic Learning Math Contest. This competition is held nationwide and designed to challenge students with complex, non-routine problems that go beyond standard classroom math. The contest emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and perseverance, encouraging students to apply multiple strategies and explain their reasoning.
For this competition, awards were given. Our School Winner was Joe Fowler. He earned the highest score among all participants at our school. Receiving National Honorable Mention were Joe Fowler, Jeremiah Gorsett, and Ryder Thoma. Honorable mention means their scores ranked them among the top performers across the country. This recognition reflects outstanding achievement at a national level and highlights the student’s ability to compete successfully with peers from schools nationwide.
Our 7th graders will have the opportunity to compete again in the spring. Congratulations to all who participated!

GET Middle School students had the opportunity to hear Denise and Kim Rostad share the remarkable story of their mother, Mary Rostad. During World War II, Mary participated in the Belgian Resistance and the French Underground. Her book, Squirrel Is Alive, is studied in 7th-grade ELA classes to deepen students’ understanding of the Holocaust and World War II.
Students were highly engaged during the presentation and asked many thoughtful questions. Thank you to Denise and Kim Rostad for visiting GET Middle School and sharing this powerful history.

Our FCS class finished up last week with a taste test! Our 8th-grade students evaluated Crumbl cookies, then rolled up their sleeves to create their own imitation recipes. From flavor profiles to texture tests—these chefs-in-training are nailing it!

This year, the middle school is recognizing outstanding student effort, behavior, and ability by giving out Student of the Term awards. Each term, teachers nominate different students, discuss their accomplishments, and then select one from each grade level. Students then have the opportunity to call home to share the news with their family and enjoy a family celebration breakfast. Way to go, students.
Congrats to our Caught Being Good Winners. This month, we held an extra drawing for students, giving them the chance to win a Subway gift card and the other one to pick where they want it to go.
Today, the middle school had its first attendance prize drawings. Students who were absent for two or fewer days of school were eligible to win one of three Amazon gift cards. We were excited to announce that 229 students met the criteria. Mauro Feria Sandoval was missing from his winning photo.
Congrats to this week's Caught Being Good Winners. Way to go, middle school students!
Agriculture One students explored the dairy industry through a fun, hands-on activity—making homemade ice cream in a bag! It was a sweet way to learn about the process behind one of Wisconsin’s favorite products.

Last Friday, our Middle School students designed their pumpkins to see if they could survive the big drop! Thanks to the amazing GET Fire Department, it was a blast! Special thanks to firefighters Pat Connelly, Brandon Page, Riley Kirkey, and Jason Lee, who were on site that day.
To show our appreciation, Life Skills students baked and decorated cupcakes as a sweet thank-you. We’re so grateful for your support and for making this such an unforgettable experience for our school! 🧁🎃
