Congrats to this week's Caught Being Good Winners. Way to go, middle school students!
We are proud to celebrate a group of our 6th-grade students who recently earned 1st place at the 6th-grade quiz bowl. This quiz bowl was held through the Mississippi Valley Gifted and Talented Network, and these students proudly represented G-E-T. The team competed in four exciting matches, answering a wide variety of challenging questions across science, math, geography, history, and spelling. Each match had 3 rounds that included individual questions, team collaboration, and a speed round. Throughout the competition, our students demonstrated impressive knowledge, quick thinking, and strong teamwork. They worked hard preparing for the event, studying various topics, and working together!

A few hard-working middle school choir students had the opportunity to attend the 2nd annual Couleeland Honor Choir in Whitehall on March 5th. They got to work with students from 14 other neighboring schools and had an excellent time making new friends and creating lasting musical memories.

Our Life Skills students have been hard at work on a special project to help our school run more smoothly! After visiting each classroom to collect current room numbers, the students designed custom new ones that reflect the specific subjects taught in each room. These new signs serve a dual purpose: they are placed above classroom doors for easy identification and in the corner of whiteboards to help students quickly identify the correct room number when screen mirroring. We are so proud of the hard work and creativity our students put into this project to support their peers and teachers!

Thursday, March 6th, our middle school math team competed in the Wisconsin Mathematics Council competition. Students participated in 4 individual events and one team event. G-E-T Middle is so proud of all the individual efforts and their work as a team. Great job and way to make G-E-T proud!!!

Middle school students in Business Explore enjoyed giving “Shark Tank Pitches” to their classes on businesses they created that solve everyday problems.

Congrats to our Caught Being Good Winners. This month, they also had a chance to win a gift card to our school's à la carte and Lylli & Ivy's.

This year, the middle school is recognizing outstanding student effort, behavior, and ability by giving out Student of the Term awards. Each term, teachers nominate different students, discuss their accomplishments, and then select one from each grade level. Students then have the opportunity to call home to share the news with their family and enjoy a family celebration breakfast. Way to go, students.
A Memorable Day at Winona State University
Our students recently had an incredible opportunity to visit Winona State University for a day filled with hands-on learning and exploration. The experience was engaging, interactive, and truly unforgettable.
Throughout the day, students participated in a wide variety of activities that brought science to life. They challenged themselves with rock climbing, examined blood and fruit flies under microscopes, and took part in the “snot lab” activity. They also explored solitary and social fish behaviors, studied dinosaur fossils, practiced precise lab skills by coloring with pipets, and experienced virtual reality simulations focused on muscles and the human body.
Beyond the lab experiences, students enjoyed eating alongside college students and learning about the history of Winona. Being on a college campus gave them a glimpse into future opportunities and helped make learning feel real and inspiring.
We are incredibly grateful to the Winona State faculty, staff, and volunteers who gave their time and energy to create such meaningful experiences for our students. Their partnership helps strengthen our school-community connections and provides opportunities that our students will be talking about for years to come.
Thank you, Winona State University, for investing in our students and making learning both exciting and memorable!

The middle school had its second attendance prize drawing. Students who were absent for two or fewer days of school were eligible to win one of three Amazon gift cards. We were excited to announce that 202 students met the criteria. Our staff winner with two or fewer days was Rhonda Jenkins!
Congrats to this week's Caught Being Good Winners. Way to go, middle school students!
Congrats to our Caught Being Good Winners. With school canceled last Friday and an additional drawing for students, giving them the chance to win a gift card to Fat Cat's Bait Shop and the Express Mart, we had a large group of winners.
6th-grade Science has been showing off their creativity and engineering skills this week! The 6th graders have been learning about wind. The students were challenged to design a windmill that could lift a cup with different weight amounts. This windmill will be able to function by only harnessing the power of the wind, or in our case, a fan.

As 8th graders are amidst their space unit, Earth's Place in the Universe, they have been tasked with an investigation to build a lunar lander that will land 5 astronauts (mini marshmallows) safely on the "moon". Restraints, such as limited building supplies and a maximum size of 15 cm tall, wide or deep were placed upon the 8th grade engineers. Gears in the minds of these engineers were at work as the design and build took place. We are testing lunar landers coming up this week. This investigation has been out of this world!

Our middle school artists explored linoleum printmaking, using line to create shape, texture, movement, and/or value. Inspired by nature, students envisioned original designs, engaged & persisted through carving, and reflected on proofs and feedback before completing at least four quality prints. This process highlighted craftsmanship, problem-solving, and creative growth.

What a great hands-on week in 6th-grade social studies! Our students officially kicked off Unit 4 by stepping into the shoes of the Ancient Egyptians.
Throughout the week, classes simulated the rise of the Egyptian Empire. Student "pharaohs" managed bags of grain (their currency) while directing workers to complete vital tasks. The ultimate goal? Build a pyramid while surviving unexpected calamities! From carving statues out of soap to engineering craft-stick ramps and sledges, our students showed amazing teamwork. Shoutout to the two groups who successfully completed their pyramids!
On Friday, we had a special guest! Mrs. Knutson’s son, Troy, joined us to demonstrate the art of papermaking. This connected perfectly to our study of papyrus. Students created their own "hand sheets" by:
Draining "slurry" (water and fiber) into a frame.
Pressing out the moisture with rolling pins.
Drying the final product on a griddle.
To wrap up the experience, students wrote their names in hieroglyphics on their handmade paper and created their own cartouches. It was a week of history coming to life!
